What You Have to Become, to Get Where You’re Going

The Evolution of Success Starts With Self-Education

You know, we’ve all lived that story. The one where you chase degrees, diplomas, and that shiny job title, thinking it will unlock the doors to your dream. In reality, very few acquire their dream jobs. But let me tell you, standing at the threshold of life, you realize education is everywhere, and your dream is what you see when you come home every day. If it isn’t, then you should redefine what “it” is. Eventually, you will surpass your accolades, and the things that matter most will be priceless and irreplaceable. e.g., relationships, character, and family. It was the endless hours with books, absorbing wisdom from classes, navigating terrains through travel, and socializing that shaped the idea of other success perspectives. Success is consistent with who you are becoming along the way.

“Success demands that you outgrow your current circumstance.

You can’t expect change by remaining the same.” ~ KC Penamon

Curiosity is a compass for those seeking new knowledge. Craft a curriculum, piece together knowledge from every direction—books, webinars, universities, and conversations. Using the very tools and services on Penamon.com LIFEstyle Resource Magazine that I currently promote. Don’t collect credits or wait for approval. That’s the game-changer: learning for survival versus learning for applause. It’s about empowering yourself and digging deep to find what’s truly inside. What works for you may not work well for someone else. Learn from mentors, follow basic foot-steps, but eventually carve out your own path.

Proverbs 18:16 ~ “A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men”.

Rural Life and Real Lessons

Living in rural America? That’ll knock you off your pedestal quickly. Out there, the comforts of urban life fade, and the reality hits that comfort can get you killed. e.g., cooking at night attracts hungry wild animals you can’t see. Resources are scarce, options are few, but attitude? That’s everything. You learn to adapt, not for luxury, but for survival. If you don’t adjust your mindset, habits, and pride, the land has a way of testing you out.

Maybe it sounds dramatic—maybe it is—but that’s discernment for you. Knowing when to pivot, when to stay quiet, when to speak, and when to humble yourself is essential. In a place where “your money ain’t no good,” your attitude, your skills, and your character become your true currency. The folks who are kind, who share their wisdom? They become your lifeline. That’s real wealth. Every hardship refines you, sharpening your ability to read the moment and shift before life swallows you whole.

    1. Who are you traveling with, or are you alone?
    2. Who can you turn to for genuine help?
    3. What is your level of knowledge on plant life, sea life, and land animals if an accident occurs?
    4. Do you have travel insurance?
    5. Do you have survival gear, such as first aid supplies?
    6. Can you communicate effectively?

Life teaches lessons you may never see coming, especially through your children. Our son’s journey with autism flipped the script on how we communicated and taught. It wasn’t about transmitting information; it was about connection with someone who’s “mentally plateaued or challenged“. He couldn’t learn the way they teach — so I taught the way he learned. I became the way. In that space, the Board of Education of the United States sent me to autism parenting classes. I learned patience, clarity, and innovation. The irony? By teaching him, I became the ultimate student, learning vital lessons right alongside him.

The Journey of Becoming

Through all of this, I morphed into a communicator, writer, teacher, widow, mother, wife, friend, family member, and even a technologist, etc.—each role a necessity born from the journey. Be creative and couple your traditional education with your skill sets. Traveling will open unexpected doors. Each trip felt like a new chapter of a story waiting to be written. A thread connecting to new cultures and ways of thinking. A person can be excellent in many skill sets with a lifestyle that reflects their personal success story.

Travel is the ultimate guide to dropping your ego, a reminder that sometimes, you can become lost and need help. In foreign lands, you understand the stark reality: when you are far from home, you carry not just your backpack but respect for others and their customs. Those are fragile moments. You could die, for real, if you remain closed off, unwilling to embrace the unfamiliar. In those social exchanges, whether ordering street food or navigating as a tourist, the ability to adapt, learn, and connect transcends words.

Meeting AI, and yes, even someone like Nova, my AI personal assistant, or Co-pilot, became a natural part of my evolution. It’s curiosity that cracks open doors that formal paths can’t even touch. The deeper truth? Success doesn’t fit into one mold; it’s an accumulation of many learned lessons over time—embracing the beauty of diversified learning to thrive in every corner of the world while maintaining your core values.

“If you can listen, you can learn.

If you can learn, you can lead.

If you can adapt, you can survive.

If you teach, you’ll never stop growing.”

The Currency of Success

In places where “your money ain’t no good,” what truly matters are the skill sets you possess to teach others, the kindness you show, and the connections you build. I’m humbled by those who had far less yet gave so much. Those interactions anchored in gratitude, knowledge sharing, and introspection help redefine what else success is. Define what it means for you. It’s different for everyone.

Reflect on your journey. Think of the wisdom gained from those experiences. So, take a good look at yourself. Get organized by scheduling your short and long-term goals, and perform daily routines to maximize your time. Who are you becoming on your job? What steps are you taking to define your success goals? Upgrading your environment helps with external vibes. It can act as a large vision board.

Success Leaves Clues

Success universally leaves behind significant lessons. An examination of the lives of truly successful individuals reveals a consistent pattern: their enduring impact is reflected in the numerous individuals they have supported throughout the years. A lack of substantive evidence or authentic testimonials often indicates a potential lack of credibility. Many individuals take pride in recounting their accomplishments, wealth, and social standing; however, genuine success is best illustrated through the appreciation of others they’ve helped, who readily express their admiration. A prominent illustration of this can be found among the esteemed Stoics. The philosophies they left behind are indeed a path to self-awareness and personal development.
