What is Bio-Hacking?

Bio-hacking Explained

Bio-hacking is a term used to describe do-it-yourself biology. They are people in pursuit of biological enhancements for a better existence. By initiating incremental changes over-time, bio-hackers aim to enhance body function for ultimate health and longevity. It’s unique to each one but offers alternatives in agriculture, nutrition (farming), physical exercise, non-toxic environments and biological studies.

The Bio-hackers goal is to vitalize every aspect of their health for ultimate results (mind, body, spirit). It means avoiding processed foods, meat-by-products, gluten and chemically induced foods to rid themselves of toxins from external and internal particulates, such as free radicals often found in these food sources.

Today’s cultural bio-hacker are eating wild caught or fresh whole foods, such as farm fresh produce, grains, poultry, fish, dairy, and meats based on their specific need. It’s never one size fits all or cookie-cutter dieting. They are not necessarily vegans, vegetarians, gluten-free or on a weight loss journey, although some are. Having a balanced nutrition with supplement support and exercise is the first step in living a healthier life.

What is the best vehicle you will ever own? It’s not a boat, a helicopter, SUV or motorcycle. Answer: Your body.

Supplements 101

All vitamins or minerals are not the same. Each maintains its own pharmaceutical recipe for a desired outcome. There are insufficient nutrients in most common foods. Supplements used vastly are to replenish deteriorating cell structures in the body, brain function, and overall health. When grouped together, multi-vitamins had less potency with a prolonged shelf life compared to stand-alone. Vitamins kept longer than necessary (2 years) are expired. Although expired vitamins may still be safe to take, they are less potent according to Medicine News Today and Prevention Magazine.

Multi-vitamins vs. Individual

  1. Multi-vitamin: A dietary supplement containing all or most of the vitamins that may not be readily available on a daily diet. They classified vitamins according to their solubility either in lipids (vitamins A, D, E, K, F) or in water (vitamins C, B-complex).

  2. Individual Supplements: It simply means leveraging stand-alone supplements or targeted complexes that are not a multi-vitamin for nutrition and overall health. This allows you to personalize your daily regimen.

The Bio-hackers Mindset

We are all bio-hacking on some level, but some more than others. Personal development education comes in three parts; physical, mental, and spiritual. Bio-hackers experiment and explore these 3 areas for opportunities to thrive based on their personal development or results from detoxification and healthy implementation.

Holism is the interdisciplinary idea that systems possess properties as wholes, apart from the properties of their parts. The concept of holism methodology is an array of scientific fields and lifestyle practices. You might consider them obsessed or extreme, but some bio-hackers desire a holistic approach.

Bio-hackers are interested in prevention, control, and maintenance. We consider it a philosophy because bio-hackers believe in nature’s simplistic ability to sustain humankind on a fundamental level (gardening for health). It’s a core belief of all bio-hacking. Most people are concerned about their health only when there’s a problem. For them, it’s about the journey of enhancement through superfoods (antioxidants), mental health, physical health and spiritual strengths. They desire to live their best life and their own truth.

What good is personal development if you’re unhealthy and do not have the vitality to accomplish goals or pull them off? You must take care of the physical. ~ Jim Rohn.
