Championships, surfing lessons, and beach locations. Everyone has their own pace. Some people will get the hang of it in a couple of hours; others will need several weekends to get their adrenaline running for the first time.

One thing is sure: the younger you are, the easier it is to learn to surf.

There are several Cinderella stories of people who began surfing in less than 60 minutes, but also of those who were never able to surf a single wave.

Don’t despair, though. It’s easier than it looks. When your hard work and effort pay off, surfing becomes an extremely rewarding experience.

At the dawn of the 1980s, a troupe of performers founded by Gilles Ste-Croix took their talent to the streets of Baie-Saint-Paul, a charming village on the shores of the St. Laurent River near Quebec City.

Known to the public as Les Échassiers de Baie-Saint-Paul (The Stiltwalkers of Baie-Saint-Paul), this group would form the core of what would grow into Cirque du Soleil. This crew had an eclectic show, highlighting jugglers, dancers, fire breathers, and musicians who pleased local fans with their acts.

Little did these early fans and performers know that these embryonic beginnings would lead to something magical, exciting, and revolutionary on a global scale.
